rescuers are searching for these two men. they are neal peckens of virginia and jason heiser from maryland in glacier national park. they didn't catch their flight home from montana. rescuers found the men's car near that area friday evening and both have been conducted aerial -- they have been conducting aerial and ground searches, pardon me, but the search was slowed by in and snow. no one knows how well prepared they wre for the weather or terrain. well, you might remember this scene, a rowdy celebration at the university of maryland after the men's basketball team beat duke in 2010. >> two police officers accused of beating a student during the celebration will be in court today. fox 5's karen gray houston is live at police headquarters with the latest. good morning, car karen.

>> reporter: good morning. opening statements will get underway today. the two prince george's county police officers, james harrison and reginald baker, accused of using excessive force in assaulting student jack mckenna during the victory celebration after that basketball game. that beating was caught on videotape. a student recorded the assault from a dorm room window. it shows officers in riot gear striking mckenna with metal batons. he was walking on the sidewalk and was hit repeatedly when he hit officers on horseback. this occurred after a spontaneous celebration that followed the universi of maryland celebration over duke in march of 2010. students swarmed in the street along route 1. police said they were unruly and out of control, that it was mayhem. they burned trash cans, tore down signs and threw projectiles at officers. more than 30 people were

shelters per year. about four million make it to homes. the other four million are killed. so groups like citigroup rescue, people volunteer to bring foster dogs in their homes and we keep the dogs until new homes are found. >> all right. now, city dogs, is there a meaning behind that title? >> well, we are in the dupont circle neighborhood so, we are in the city. >> gotcha. >> it was started at the city dogs day care. we board some of the dogs there and some stay in foster homes until they are adopted. >> thank you for the good work you do. we are showing a picture -- live shot i should say of truman going nap pi time. >> we got truman about a week or so ago. >> he opened his eyes like talking about me. >> he is a senior. he is about 10 years old, a

hound great dane mix. basically not wanted by his family. we don't know the story. they brought him to the shelter. they didn't want him any more. we found him and we are taking care of him until he finds a new home. >> with the senior pups, there are health things that come along with ownership. as far as you know, can you isolate anything that a new owner may have to look out for as far as health or temperment issues. >> usually rescue has information about the dog, basic health screening is done ahead of time. you will find out if they have lyme disease, heart worm. they are common in shelter animals but easily treatable. >> we know senior dogs -- i'm a dog owner. i don't know about cats. i have to assume the same thing. sweet, wonderful, easy going for the most part and can add a lot of love in your home.

>> yeah, you don't have to worry about the puppy years chewing furniture. you brought picture we want to get them on. we have susie, harry and cocoa. is this susie. >> susie. >> these are all adoptable animals, right? >> she is a young medium sized black lab 1 to 2 years old. very shy but she is coming out of her shell. very sweet dog. >> cute. >> here is terry. >> very stately. >> she is a hound mix about three or four years old, the counterpart to truman or am i presuming too much. >> unrelated. >> and last but not least cocoa. >> she is a very sweet small chocolate lab. she just met a family this weekend. we hope it will be her new home.

american trail. it's beautiful. >> we are excited bit. >> reporter: absolutely. as you should be. let's talk about the sea lions. do they like the new home? >> they seem to like it. they do great demonstrations for the people, the visitors. >> reporter: what is special about the new home? >> we have a lot of changes that we made to the space to make it better for them. we have a wave none give them a more ocean experience. >> reporter: stop it. they have a wave experience? >> they do. >> we shaded the bottom of the pool so it's more ocean like. we will convert to sea water so it's better for them and to plaque it a more typical ocean experience. >> reporter: right. so they feel like they are in the wild. let's talk about the life of a sea lion. i read they can swim up to 25 miles per hour under water. >> they are fast. they use the big front flippers to pull themselves through the water. they can run quick on land. they are adapted to water and land. >> reporter: how long can they be out of the water? >> they can stay out of the

water for a long time. they don't need to be in the water like dolphins and whales. they do spend a lot of the time in the water, they feel safest and their food comes from. >> reporter: they are social? >> they are. they spend a lot of time in large groups. >> reporter: the females are social? >> yeah. >> they finish with the breeding process and go off on their own. >> reporter: so typical. we are watching them work with them. we want to emphasize that they are not doing tricks. they are working on behaviors. explain what we are watching. >> husbandry behaviors. things that we ask them to do to participate voluntarily in their care. ultrasound positions, radio graphs so when the vets work with them, it's calm and not stressful. we spend time on that and things to give them mental

stimulation and keep their brains working. they are intelligent. we want to keep them engaged. it's like reading a good book. we want the sea lions to have that relationship. >> at one time they were endangered. because of conservation efforts, we are okay? >> yeah. sea lions and marine animals were endangered but they have rebounded quit well on the pacific coast and are doing well. a great success story. >> reporter: we will continue to look at the sea lions because they are just made for tv as we can see this morning. but they are not the only animals on the american trail. we have video from the other animals. let's talk about what you will see. >> as you move off the trail, you will see classic north american species, gray wolves, north american eagle, beavers and otters and the new species is common ravens that we are excited about. >> people are excited about it.

>> reporter: what has been the reaction to the new american trail? >> nothing but positive feedback. a great visitor experience and a great opportunity to get up and close to our native species, animals from around north america that people are familiar with that maybe haven't had a chance to get to know. they come up and say hello to everyone. people love seeing a bald eagle, the national symbol. >> reporter: you a inspiring when you see -- awe-inspiring when you see that. you made it a great experience for the visitors. >> the natural experience where you feel like you are in the pacific northwest or in the forest, you are enclosed in the space. we have changed the pathways so it's easier to get around. there is a food stand to have lunch. a tide pool to get your feet wet and parents can take a

cupcakes. from a bakery in d.c. to stores in new york and a hit television show, our next guests aren't shy with their sweet tooth. the cupcake queens are out with a book with their favorite recipes. they join us now live in studio with ideas for halloween. thank you for coming in. >> thank you for having us. >> you have been on the show before but i think the first time in studio glad to have you here. before we get to the cupcakes, katherine, step over this way. you seem to be hiding. can we have a profile. either you are eating a lot of cupcakes -- you made an announcement on your show. >> on the last episode last tuesday i surprised my mother with the big news that i'm having a baby. we spelled out you are going to

be a grandma. >> how far along. >> six months. >> first child. >> my first child. we don't know the gender yet. we will do a gender reveal cupcake where you stuff it with blue or pink butter cream. >> great idea. >> the book is full of great ideas. you will do something for us now called spooky spider halloween cupcakes. >> we have these for halloween. it's super fun and easy to do. the recipe is in our books. what we will do, you will add your favorite halloween candy to the batter. we have m and ms, snicker barkann di bars. we will frost with orange butter cream. if you love the butter cream -- do you want to try. >> you will start with the cupcake, around in a circle and

end with a burst of pressure. >> it tastes the same. >> still tastes delicious. for halloween, a nice spooky decoration -- >> this is warm. >> if you don't have one at home, put it in a cloth bag with a tip. start at the top of the cupcake and squeeze a line going down and then across. now, again -- cut it diagonally like so then connect all the lines together on the outside then make an inner web just like that. it's a fun way to decorate your cupcake for halloween and it's delicious. easy to do at home.

>> did you do inner out. >> outer first. >> perfect. >> then if you don't want to use fudge you can use a chocolate ganache or any other topping. >> we take paper punches at michaels or a craft store -- >> slide it through and punch it out. >> let me ask you a question. allison and i were surprised when we got the book, you got the recipes in here. aren't you concerned? >> no, we grew up bake wearing our grandmother. it was something that bonded us together. we wanted to share that experience with everyone out there. we think there is no better way to bake than at home with your family. baking is not rocket science. flour, sugar, butter and eggs and that experience of a family baking together, holidays, kids, that's what inspired us.
